VACCINE POLICY
Complete Pediatrics puts the health of your children and our community first. We are convinced that vaccines are a safe and effective way to protect against illness and save lives.
We follow the guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We require vaccination of all new patients under the age of 18. Vaccines and boosters listed below will be given at the recommended ages and times. These vaccines are required by Connecticut Public Schools.
Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTaP) | Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) | Chickenpox (varicella) |
Hib | Polio | Pneumococcal |
Hepatitis A | Hepatitis B | Meningitis (Meningococcal) |
Some medical conditions may prevent a child from being able to get all vaccines. We will address this with each individual family.
The CDC also offers a catch-up immunization schedule for children who are not vaccinated or delayed in their vaccines. If you are a new pediatric patient to Complete Pediatrics, we will use this schedule to make sure your child gets all appropriate vaccines within the year of his/her first appointment.
We know that the decision to vaccinate your child is not made lightly, so we wanted to explain why we are a vaccinating office, and what that means for your family. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in vaccine delays or refusals due to misinformation that is often spread online or from person-to-person. Particularly surrounding the MMR vaccine, statements have been made alleging that it causes autism. This has been proven false in numerous studies. It is important to note that the study claiming a link between the MMR vaccine and autism came from a doctor whose paper was redacted, and who subsequently lost his license to practice medicine due to unethical practices. Because we are committed to caring for your child to the best of our ability, we do require that all patients in our practice be vaccinated and progressing towards the immunization goals set forth by the American Academy of Pediatrics and NAPNAP.
We value the relationship between the family and clinician so remaining aligned with a shared goal of following the CDC guidelines allows us to optimize wellness and prevent illness. We will require a written immunization plan and consensus if the recommended immunization schedule is adjusted.
Thank you for taking the time to read this policy, and we encourage you to contact your provider with any questions or concerns you may have.
